Apple plans to shift the assembly of all US-sold iPhones to India as soon as next year, according to people familiar with the matter, as President Donald Trump’s trade war forces the tech giant to pivot away from China.

That’s what The Financial Times’ sources are saying, with the goal of producing “the entirety of the more than 60mn iPhones sold annually in the US by the end of 2026.” But the real goal is to avoid the worst of Trump’s tariffs and to continue the diversification of Apple’s supply chain to places outside China.

Apple has already stepped up production in India to beat U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs, shipping some 600 tons of iPhones worth $2 billion to the United States in March.
