Gov. Bob Ferguson made the final call to turn down a higher bid from a local boat builder, selecting a Florida company for three new ferries.

For the first time in more than 50 years, a Washington ferry will be built out of state. Governor Ferguson awarded the contract, worth $714.5 million, to Florida’s Eastern Shipbuilding Group for three new hybrid electric 160-car ferries.

The decision represents a turnabout from plans announced during the Biden administration to move the FBI to a site in Greenbelt, Maryland. The suburban Washington location was selected over nearby Virginia following a sharp competition between the two states.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation plans to move its headquarters to the Ronald Reagan Building complex in Washington, scuttling Biden administration plans approved by Congress to move the agency to the Maryland suburbs.

After nearly two decades of anticipation, the FBI has decided to establish its new headquarters in Washington, D.C.
