In response to Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada, the European Movement has launched a European Movement Canada campaign, aiming to establish closer ties between Canada and Europe on all fronts.
Trump, who has imposed 25% tariffs on almost all products imported from Canada, has repeatedly said this year that the US has a “$200 billion” trade deficit with Canada – sometimes making the claim explicitly and sometimes using vaguer language about a supposed $200 billion subsidy or loss to Canada.
The European Union was formed in order to screw the United States, Donald Trump has declared. Speaking during his first cabinet meeting, the US president said: “The European Union was formed in order to screw the United States, that’s the purpose of it. And they’ve done a good job of it. But now I’m president.”
These common imports from the European Union could cost more if Trump follows through on plans to enact 25% tariffs.
