Captain Shan Masood and Babar Azam have shared Pakistan’s record opening stand of 205 runs against South Africa after the Proteas enforced the follow-on on the third day of the second and final test.

Spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali made hay with the new ball in Multan, taking nine wickets between them to bundle out West Indies for 137 before captain Shan Masood's second-innings fifty helped Pakistan to build a 202-run lead on the second day of the first test on Saturday.

Babar Azam's resilience shone despite Pakistan's loss, with a stellar performance alongside Shan Masood. However, Masood emphasised the need for the team to capitalise on key moments, stressing the importance of learning to win in crucial situations.

Pakistan skipper Shan Masood believes the ball-tracking depicted by the Hawkeye didn't paint the correct picture which led to his dismissal in the second innings of the final Test of the series against South Africa.

Pakistan and West Indies last faced each other in the red-ball format in 2021 in the Caribbean, where the two-match series was levelled 1-1. Pakistan under the leadership of Masood will be looking to win their second consecutive home series after they defeated England 2-1 in October last year.

Shan Masood and Babar Azam created history by setting Pakistan's highest-ever opening partnership against South Africa with a 150-plus stand, surpassing the 137-run record. Masood remained unbeaten at 93 and Babar at 78,

Shan Masood led Pakistan's fightback against South Africa after being forced to follow on in the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town. Masood has shattered an all-time Pakistan record but fell short of a historic feat of legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
